This store has a very nice selection of comfort shoes out on the shelf, and on my three trips here the service has been very good. Each time I was helped by Ilona who was very helpful. But of the dozen or so styles I liked on my visits, only one of them was in stock in my common size (euro39) that day. Which is very disappointing after you've spent so long browsing. On my last visit, I settled on a shoe I didn't really like because they didn't have the one I did like in my size. As soon as I got home, I decided to return the shoe. Why pay that kind of money for a so-so shoe? A week later when I managed to get back to the store (I have 3 kids under 5 including a 6 week old infant) to return them, I hit an unexpected snag. Turns out they have a *5 DAY* return policy. Yikes! These are pricey shoes, if I decide I just don't like them I should have a reasonable amount of time to return them. When I voiced my shock, the clerk (no Ilona) who was helping me was very rude. She said that "It's just a shoe, you should know in 5 days if you want it or not." Holy moly. Maybe a training course on politeness is in order. Ultimately they took the shoes back, but it was not pleasant. I hope the manager reads this, because I can't shop at this store any more. I can get the same shoes online for way cheaper where I know up front if my size is available, and most of these websites will pay for return shipping if you decide you don't like them. No sass either. A shame. Competing with online retailers is the new reality, especially for shoes. Stores have to go the extra mile to keep their customers.
Ignored by staff. I went in to buy some shoes for my self. While we were browsing my mom found a pair of boots she liked. As she was trying them on I went up to the counter to see if someone could help us find another size. The lady at the counter was intently packing a box and actively avoided eye contact with anyone waiting in line. Eventually we got frustrated and gave up. We wandered around the other side of the store for a couple minutes but the salesman also ignored us. Check Mate Shoes, I'm sure you have Great Shoes, but your sales staff need to engage with the customers. Because they didn't, your store lost two sales that day and two customers.
Went into this store yesterday. In spite of having purchased shoes there previously and a google search of wide width shoe stores...I was told they only carry regular width shoes. Either update your bio or update your staff.
